Burn-Up W: On the Case & In your Face
Oshimeter
Synopsis
In futuristic Tokyo, three female cops are less concerned with procedure and more concerned with getting results — usually through explosions, hacking, or both. That's Team Warrior: Rio, the impulsive blonde who leads with her fists; Maya, the green-haired sniper who looks genuinely happy every time she picks up a gun; and Lilica, the pink-haired tech genius whose wealthy background makes her somehow the most grounded of the three. When a terrorist group called Falcon Claw takes hostages at an International Peace Forum with a list of demands that borders on absurd, Team Warrior is the city's best option. That says something about the state of Tokyo. The tone here is comedic and loose — this is a 4-episode OVA from AIC, and it leans hard into the 'girls with guns' genre without taking itself too seriously. The mid-90s animation has that chunky, vibrant style that either reads as charming or dated depending on your tolerance, and Hiroyuki Namba's soundtrack keeps the energy moving between action beats. If you've watched Dirty Pair and wanted something with a bit more mecha flavoring, or if Gunsmith Cats left you wanting a larger ensemble and less grounded stakes, this scratches a similar itch. Fans of Bubblegum Crisis who want something lighter and less serialized will probably find it comfortable territory. It's not trying to be deep — it's a breezy action-comedy with a clear identity and enough character chemistry to make four episodes feel worthwhile.
