Synopsis

Meet Ataru Moroboshi — a lecherous high school student with the worst luck imaginable, and that luck hits a new low when he's randomly chosen to save Earth from an alien invasion — by playing tag. His opponent is Lum, the gorgeous, tiger-striped bikini-wearing daughter of the Oni alien leader. All he has to do is grab her horns in ten days. The catch: she can fly and shoot lightning. The bigger catch: after he somehow wins, Lum misinterprets his victory shout as a marriage proposal and moves into his house. Now Ataru is stuck with an alien girl who genuinely loves him, an entire town full of weirdos, and a revolving door of extraterrestrial chaos — all while he keeps trying to flirt with every other girl in sight. The dynamic between Ataru's shameless wandering eye and Lum's electrifying jealousy is the engine that drives everything, and it never stops being funny. This 2022 TV series is David Production's fresh take on Rumiko Takahashi's legendary manga, and the modernized animation is genuinely gorgeous while staying true to the original's energy. If you grew up on the 1981 version, this is a loving update worth revisiting. If you're a fan of Ranma ½ or Tenchi Muyo, you'll recognize the DNA here — chaotic harem comedy with actual heart underneath the slapstick. It's 23 episodes of comedic, romantic sci-fi nonsense set in a world where the absurd is just Tuesday.
