EPISODE CONTEXT
Sitting near the midpoint of the 23-episode season, Episode 9 builds on the expanding cast introduced in Episode 8 by digging into Lum's backstory and past relationships, adding new layers to her dynamic with Ataru. Rei's introduction as an ex-fiancé raises the romantic stakes and enriches the love polygon that drives much of the series. This directly sets up Episode 10's shift toward parental involvement and school events, continuing the season's pattern of steadily deepening interpersonal complexity while never letting up on the comedy.
