Special Kid Factory
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Nothing about Genpei's life stands out — he's just some ordinary kid, unremarkable in every way, until he meets a boy who looks exactly like him. Turns out, Genpei is a clone — a body double created to cover for the original, a boy named Denshiin who's been fighting in an interstellar war most humans don't even know exists. Alien arms dealers have been quietly running Earth as a supersoldier factory, abducting kids with unique abilities and shipping them off to fight across the universe. When Denshiin escapes and makes it back to Earth, Genpei gets dragged into something way bigger than he ever expected. Mistaken for Denshiin — who's apparently a seasoned detective — Genpei finds himself solving murder mysteries across the galaxy while trying to figure out who he actually is and whether his entire life was manufactured. The vibe here is deeply mysterious, with that slow-burn tension where every answer just opens three more questions. It's got the existential identity crisis energy of Serial Experiments Lain, the dark undercurrent hiding beneath a sci-fi premise like Wonder Egg Priority, and some of the raw, unsettling world-building you'd get from Devilman Crybaby. Studio NAZ is handling the animation, and the blend of detective work with interstellar sci-fi gives it a flavor that's genuinely hard to find elsewhere. If you like shows that make you sit with uncomfortable questions about identity and free will while wrapping them in a thriller plot, this one's worth keeping on your radar.
