Lupin III: Operation Return the Treasure
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Being the world's greatest thief is a reputation built on taking things — which makes it genuinely awkward when Lupin III is forced to take on a job that requires him to give things back. After a slick casino heist in Moscow, Lupin and his deadshot partner Jigen track down a legendary gem called the Trick Diamond — only to find Fujiko Mine already at the dead owner's estate with a very strange message. The old thief left a posthumous challenge: return five stolen treasures to their rightful places across the globe within seven days, and the diamond's location gets revealed. For a man whose entire career is built on taking things, this is a genuinely awkward assignment. Add Inspector Zenigata hot on their trail and a crime lord who wants the diamond for himself, and the whole thing becomes a globe-trotting chase with a ticking clock. Being a TV special, it's a single self-contained story — no commitment required, no catching up on dozens of episodes. The tone lands somewhere between caper comedy and action thriller, with Yuji Ohno's jazz-influenced soundtrack giving everything a cool, breezy energy. If you liked the style of Cowboy Bebop or City Hunter — morally flexible protagonists, sharp wit, stylish action — this fits that same space. It's also a solid entry point if you've never watched Lupin before. The character dynamics are immediately readable, the premise sets itself up fast, and it never takes itself too seriously.
