Lupin the Third Part 3
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Self-proclaimed and almost certainly correct, the world's greatest thief is Lupin III, and he knows it. Charming, reckless, and almost supernaturally good at walking away with things that don't belong to him, Lupin travels the globe pulling off heists with his crew: Jigen, a sharpshooter who barely puts down his cigarette long enough to aim, Goemon, a stoic samurai who genuinely questions why he hangs around these people, and Fujiko, a femme fatale who is arguably running her own agenda at all times. Hot on their trail is Inspector Zenigata, a man who has dedicated his entire career to catching one guy and somehow keeps failing. The dynamic between them is half the fun. This is the 'Pink Jacket' era of Lupin, 50 episodes from 1984, and it leans into a lighter, goofier tone than other entries in the franchise. Each episode is its own self-contained caper — no long arcs, no homework required. You drop in, watch Lupin do something ridiculous, and watch him barely escape. Yuji Ohno's jazz soundtrack gives the whole thing a breezy, stylish feel that holds up surprisingly well. If you enjoyed the globe-trotting cat-and-mouse energy of City Hunter or the slick genre cool of Golgo 13, this fits that same 80s action-comedy pocket. It is not trying to be deep. It is trying to be fun, and it mostly succeeds on that front.
