Lupin III: From Siberia With Love
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Five hundred tons of Romanov gold — treasure that's been missing since the fall of the Russian Empire — falls into Lupin III's lap, and it's all he needs to set his whole operation in motion. His only clue is a cryptic phrase buried in an old book: 'Bank of Liberty.' That's enough for Lupin to drag his whole crew into it — sharpshooter Jigen, stoic swordsman Goemon, and the perpetually untrustworthy Fujiko — on a chase that cuts through Texas and deep into Russia. The setup is classic Lupin: historical intrigue, an absurd amount of gold, and a gang of specialists who bicker as much as they cooperate. What makes this one interesting is the villain — a telepathic descendant of Rasputin who wants the treasure for himself, which adds a genuinely weird layer to what could've been a straightforward heist story. The tone stays light and comedic throughout, but the action keeps things moving. It's a 90-minute TV special, so there's no filler — it gets in, tells a complete story, and gets out. If you've watched City Hunter and enjoyed the blend of humor and action with a competent adult cast, Lupin fits that same groove. Fans of Detective Conan's mystery setups will also find the cipher puzzle angle satisfying. Think of it as a breezy globe-trotting caper with enough historical flavor to feel like more than just a chase movie.
