Synopsis
Nanami Momozono is only seventeen when her deadbeat dad skips town with a mountain of debt, leaving her completely homeless. While wandering the streets with nowhere to go, she helps a stranger being chased by a dog, and he repays her by offering his house. Sounds like a decent deal until she gets there and realizes it's a crumbling old shrine — and the resident fox familiar, Tomoe, is not exactly thrilled about his new master being some random human girl. See, the guy she helped was the local land god, and by accepting his home, Nanami accidentally inherited the job. Now she has to figure out divine duties, deal with shrine spirits who expect competence she doesn't have, and somehow earn the respect of Tomoe, a centuries-old yokai with a sharp tongue and zero patience for mortals. The dynamic between Nanami and Tomoe is really the core of this 13-episode TV series. She's stubborn and kind in equal measure, and he's arrogant but protective in ways he'd never admit. Their chemistry builds naturally, with genuine comedic timing and moments that are quietly romantic without being saccharine. The Japanese mythology elements feel grounded and interesting rather than just decorative. If you liked the god-and-human dynamic in Noragami, or the warmth of something like Kamichu!, this hits a similar sweet spot. TMS Entertainment adapted the shoujo manga with clean, expressive animation that suits the tone well. It's a cozy watch — funny, a little sweet, and easy to get through in an afternoon.
