ABOUT

This story began as Akiwashi’s university graduation film, a labor of love that took a year and a half to complete.

Except for the music and voice acting, Akiwashi produced everything alone, from storyboarding and animation to visual design and direction.

Originally conceived as a short anime video, Akiwashi always dreamed of expanding the story into a novel and, one day, a full-length animated film.

Now that the novel has become a reality, the growing interest in a feature adaptation has been an unexpected and joyful surprise.

With visual storytelling at its core, every scene was crafted to be cinematically beautiful. Akiwashi believes that if Living in the World Without Magic were ever adapted into a feature film, it would become something truly special.

The full feature film reveals the original story behind the short anime.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS

In the town of Urgalz, witches live quietly among ordinary people.

On a rainy night, a lost boy named Haru is taken in by Sara, a mysterious one-eyed witch who lives on an island floating high above the town.

She welcomes him with warmth and kindness, setting before him a hot meal. Day by day, warmth replaces silence between them.

Behind her kind smile lies a secret she can never reveal, one that will draw Haru into the forgotten past of the witches.
