Detective Conan OVA 01: Conan VS KID VS Yaiba

Buried under a mountain of manga his friend Mitsuhiko dumped on him, Conan Edogawa is enjoying exactly the kind of normal kid afternoon he rarely gets. That quiet doesn't last — Kogorou Mouri gets hired to protect a prized sword at a traditional dojo, because the phantom thief Kaitou Kid has sent one of his calling cards announcing he's coming to steal it. If you've watched Magic Kaito, you already know Kid operates like a magician crossed with a con artist, and stopping him is rarely straightforward. At the dojo, the group also runs into Yaiba Kurogane, a hotblooded young swordsman from Gosho Aoyama's manga series Yaiba — which makes this essentially a crossover between three different properties from the same creator. That's the main draw here. Watching Conan, Kid, and Yaiba orbit the same case is genuinely fun, and the tone stays light throughout. Nobody dies, nothing gets heavy. It's closer to a comedic caper than a whodunit. If you like Lupin III's heist energy mixed with Conan's puzzle-solving instincts, this single OVA episode scratches both itches without demanding any serious investment. It works fine as a standalone, though fans of the main Detective Conan series will get more out of the character dynamics. Think of it as a holiday special — low stakes, loose fun, and a good excuse to see how these three very different personalities bounce off each other.
