Synopsis

At just 17 years old, Kamille Bidan carries a chip on his shoulder and a name he's sensitive about. He lives in a space colony that happens to house a military base for the Titans — the Earth Federation's elite task force that was supposed to clean up after the last war but ended up becoming just as bad as the enemy they replaced. When Kamille crosses paths with the AEUG resistance and a mysterious pilot named Quattro Bajeena (who fans of Mobile Suit Gundam will recognize pretty quickly), he gets pulled into a war that's way more complicated than good guys versus bad guys. This is a 50-episode TV series from Sunrise, and it's darker and messier than the original Gundam in ways that actually matter. The politics feel tangled and real, the characters make decisions you'll disagree with, and the emotional weight builds steadily across the whole run. Kamille isn't your typical mecha protagonist — he's angry, impulsive, and genuinely affected by the things he goes through. The romance threads here feel earned rather than decorative, and the mecha designs introduced transforming mobile suits that became iconic for a reason. If you liked Mobile Suit Gundam but wanted something with sharper teeth, this is where the franchise grew up. Fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion's psychological edge will find a lot to connect with here too, since Zeta was doing the "war breaks teenagers" thing a full decade earlier. It's heavy, it's political, and it doesn't pull punches.

Quick Takes

Unlike the bright and adventurous tone of the original Gundam, Zeta Gundam is filled with a tragic, almost oppressive atmosphere. Personally, I enjoy this darker mood. Amuro and Char appear, but as changed characters, making it feel less like a sequel and more like a standalone w
This episode shows the catalyst for Kamille's reason to fight on a surface-level. But I think the episode in general isn't good in a way that it's a bit redundant to the previous episode. Still a good watch for the important plot point.
