Lupin III: The Fuma Conspiracy
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Lupin's stoic, katana-wielding crew member Goemon Ishikawa XIII is getting married. That alone is worth watching. But before the ceremony even wraps up, a clan of ninjas crashes the wedding, kidnaps the bride, and demands an ancient family urn as ransom. Goemon, who normally refuses to show any emotion, is suddenly very motivated to burn things down. Lupin, Jigen, and Fujiko pile in to help, because apparently none of them had anything better planned that week. The urn turns out to be connected to a hidden treasure, which means the Fuma Clan isn't just holding a woman hostage — they're racing Lupin to something much bigger. The whole thing unfolds over a single movie runtime, so it never drags. The animation holds up well for 1987, especially in the chase sequences, which have a kinetic energy that a lot of modern productions still can't match. The tone is classic Lupin — comedic, a little chaotic, but with genuine stakes underneath. If you liked City Hunter: .357 Magnum or Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, where action and personality carry the whole thing, this sits comfortably in that same space. Worth noting: the voice cast here is different from the main TV series, which sounds like a downgrade on paper but actually gives the characters a slightly fresh feel. A good entry point even if you're not deep into Lupin lore.
