Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge
Oshimeter
Synopsis
It turns out Frieza had a brother. That's really all you need to know going in. After Goku dealt with the most iconic villain in Dragon Ball history, it turns out the family tree has another branch, and Cooler is not happy about what happened to his little sibling. The setup is simple — Goku and friends are out camping, minding their own business, when Cooler's Armored Squadron drops in to ruin the trip. What follows is a tight, focused movie that doesn't waste time getting to the fights. This is a 1991 Toei Animation movie, so it has that classic hand-drawn Dragon Ball Z energy with cinematic production quality that the TV series couldn't always deliver. Goku's Super Saiyan transformation looks genuinely great here, and the soundtrack goes hard during the battle sequences. The film expands on the Frieza family lore in a way that feels natural, giving Cooler his own personality rather than just making him a reskin. He's colder, more calculated, and arguably more threatening. At around 50 minutes, it doesn't overstay its welcome — it's basically one long, well-animated fight with enough story to justify it. If you enjoyed Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might or Dragon Ball Z: The World's Strongest, this fits right alongside them as peak DBZ movie material. Fans of Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan will also appreciate the villain-driven structure. It's pure DBZ comfort food, done well.
