Di Gi Charat
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Dejiko is a princess from outer space who moves to Tokyo with no money, no plan, and big dreams of becoming an idol — and ends up working retail in Akihabara. That's Di Gi Charat in a nutshell. Dejiko, the cat-eared royal from the planet Di Gi Charat, arrives on Earth convinced fame is just around the corner. It is not. She and her tiny sidekick Puchiko get taken in by the manager of a Gamers shop, and suddenly princess life involves folding merchandise and dealing with customers. Her coworker Hikaru Usada, who goes by Rabi~en~Rose, is equally ambitious and considerably less fond of Dejiko, which makes the workplace dynamic entertaining in a low-stakes, chaotic kind of way. Each episode runs under four minutes, so the whole thing is a quick, easy watch — 16 episodes that feel more like a collection of sketches than a traditional series. The humor is absurd and self-aware, with characters regularly acknowledging the audience. The chibi art style leans hard into the silliness. If you enjoy the unhinged energy of Excel Saga or the casual weirdness of Ninja Nonsense, this fits comfortably in that space. It is not trying to tell a deep story. It is just a genuinely weird, funny little show about a space princess who cannot catch a break, made by Madhouse back in 1999 when short-form anime was still a novelty.
