Di Gi Charat: Flower Viewing Specials
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A catgirl from Planet Di Gi Charat, Dejiko moved to Akihabara with dreams of becoming an idol. In the meantime, she works at a game shop with her tiny companion Puchiko and their floating, lecture-prone sidekick Gema. The Ohanami Special is four short, standalone episodes made for Spring 2001 — no ongoing plot, no setup required, just concentrated chaos from a cast that already knows how to bounce off each other. In the first episode, Dejiko's rival Piyoko and the Black Gema Gema Gang show up trying to stake a claim on her space, which goes about as well as you'd expect. The second episode is the whole crew trying to grab the best cherry blossom viewing spot before anyone else can, which turns into exactly the kind of petty, escalating nonsense that makes this series work. The humor is fast, physical, and a little absurd — chibi character designs doing very undignified things while completely committed to the bit. It's set in a real, recognizable Akihabara, which gives it a grounded backdrop that makes the silliness land a bit differently than generic fantasy settings. If you've seen Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat or Di Gi Charat Nyo and wanted more of that energy in smaller doses, this fits. Fans of Ninja Nonsense's brand of cheerful, low-stakes mayhem will also feel at home here. Four episodes, no commitment, and it does exactly what it sets out to do.
