Synopsis

Cutting through Japan one murder at a time — Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto — a killer in a samurai mask leaves victims who all share a secret connection to a gang that steals Buddhist relics. The police are stuck, and then a Kyoto temple receives a cryptic puzzle letter tied to a missing statue, so naturally everyone's favorite clueless TV detective Kogorou Mouri gets called in. Tagging along, as always, is Conan Edogawa — the actual brain of the operation — and this time Heiji Hattori, Osaka's teenage detective, joins the crew too. Watching Conan and Heiji bounce off each other while quietly doing all the real investigative work is genuinely fun, and the two of them together give the mystery a different energy than Conan flying solo. The whole thing is set against Kyoto's temples and historic backstreets, which gives it a grounded, atmospheric feel rather than a generic city backdrop. The tone balances a fairly dark central mystery with the series' usual dry humor without either side feeling out of place. If you liked the puzzle-heavy slow-burn of Spiral or the cultural layering in Ayatsuri Sakon, this movie scratches a similar itch. Even if you're not deep into the Detective Conan franchise, the film works as a standalone case — though fans of Heiji will get more out of it. It's a solid, well-paced mystery movie with a strong sense of place.

One of the most beautiful Conan movies, Set in a historic city atmosphere, it blends traditional culture, emotional depth, and a layered mystery so perfectly. The soundtrack, the visuals, the tension.. everything feels elevated. It’s thoughtful, poetic, and incredibly gripping.
