Case Closed Movie 03: The Last Wizard of the Century
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A phantom thief who announces his heists in advance just to prove nobody can stop him, Kaitou Kid has set his sights on a Russian Imperial Easter Egg held in Osaka. He even sends a warning letter with the exact date and time. The police scramble, and Conan Edogawa, the pint-sized genius detective trapped in a kid's body, shows up to make sure Kid doesn't walk away clean. So does Heiji Hattori, Conan's sharp-tongued rival from Osaka. What starts as a high-stakes heist chase quietly shifts into something heavier when people connected to the egg start turning up dead, and the trail leads back to the Romanov Dynasty and a tragedy buried in history. The mix of slick thief-versus-detective tension and genuine murder mystery is where this movie earns its runtime. The Conan-Kid dynamic has a weird, almost respectful energy between them — they're not exactly enemies, but they're definitely not on the same side. If you liked the cat-and-mouse rhythm of Lupin the 3rd vs. Detective Conan, this hits a similar note but with a darker historical thread underneath. Fans of Detective Conan: The Magician of Starlight will recognize the setup, but this one digs deeper into the lore around Kaitou Kid. You don't need to be caught up on the TV series to follow it — it works as a standalone, though knowing who Conan and Heiji are going in makes the banter land better.
