Ponkotsu Quest: Maou to Haken no Mamono-tachi
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Being on the Demon King's payroll sounds intimidating, but Kaku and Imura — two demons in his employ — are terrible at their jobs. Like, impressively bad. Ponkotsu Quest drops you into a fantasy RPG world where the monsters on the villain's side are less "fearsome forces of darkness" and more "coworkers who can't stop arguing long enough to complete a simple task." Every mission the Demon King sends them on goes sideways because these two have the competence of NPCs who wandered out of a tutorial zone. The whole thing is a parody of classic RPG and fantasy tropes, but it's also weirdly relatable as a workplace comedy. The dynamic between Kaku and Imura feels like two temp workers who got assigned to the wrong department and are just trying not to get fired by their boss, who happens to be an evil overlord. The episodes are around four minutes each, so you can burn through a bunch of them without committing to anything heavy. If you liked the vibe of short-form comedy ONAs like Senjuushi: Gendaijuu no Heya or the offbeat humor of Chikasugi Idol Akae-chan Specials, this hits a similar note — low-stakes, silly, and easy to pick up whenever you have a few minutes. The animation from Pie in the sky is simple but it works for the comedic timing. It's the kind of thing you throw on between heavier shows when you just want something dumb and fun.
