Overlord II

Synopsis
Picture a regular salaryman trapped in an undead body and a bathrobe who runs the most terrifyingly powerful dungeon in a fantasy world, and the thing is — he's just a regular guy trying not to blow his cover. Overlord II picks up with Ainz firmly settled into his role as undead overlord of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, and this season shifts focus in an interesting way. Instead of just watching Ainz steamroll everything, the early arcs spend real time with the Lizardmen tribes — characters you'd expect to be throwaway enemies — building out their culture, politics, and survival struggles before Nazarick's shadow falls over them. It gives the world actual weight. Cocytus, one of Ainz's floor guardians, gets a surprisingly solid character arc out of this too. The appeal here is that Overlord isn't really about whether Ainz wins. He's going to win. It's about the political chess, the moral gray areas of watching an anti-hero conquer people who have their own lives and motivations, and the slow empire-building that Madhouse animates across these 13 episodes. If you liked the strategic depth of Log Horizon or the isekai power fantasy angle of Sword Art Online but wanted something darker and more morally ambiguous, this scratches that itch. Fans of No Game No Life's scheming protagonist energy will find a lot to chew on here, just with a much bleaker tone. Season one is required viewing first, obviously.
