📖 SYNOPSIS
Tsunehiro Sasaki's life collapses on every front all at once. Failed his university entrance exams, lost everything day-trading, buried in debt, and then — because the universe apparently wasn't done — he gets diagnosed with a terminal illness. Two years to live, tops. He's at rock bottom when a group of amateur fishermen, including a high schooler named Hana Ayukawa, pull him out of the ocean after he nearly drowns fleeing from creditors. What follows is a 12-episode original TV series about a guy who has every reason to give up slowly finding reasons not to, one fishing trip at a time.
NegaPosi Angler is a quiet show. It's not trying to rush anywhere. The coastal scenery is gorgeous, the fishing sequences feel genuinely researched, and the soundtrack knows exactly when to pull back and when to hit. But what makes it work is Tsunehiro himself — watching someone with a countdown clock on his life start caring about small things again, like landing a catch or showing up for people who showed up for him.
If you liked the rural healing vibe of Barakamon, or the way March Comes in Like a Lion handles depression without sugarcoating it, this is in that lane. It's also got some of Shirobako's knack for making you invested in adults figuring out their lives. Studio Nut animated it, and they clearly put care into the water and lighting. It's a gentle watch that earns its emotional moments honestly.
