Lupin III: The Columbus Files

When Fujiko Mine gets her hands on the Columbus Files — documents pointing to a legendary treasure called Columbus' Egg — she memorizes every detail, then destroys them so nobody else can use them. Smart move. Unfortunately, the villain Nazaroff doesn't see it that way, and after an attack, Fujiko wakes up with no memory of who she is, where she's been, or what she knows. The only person who can lead anyone to the treasure is now completely lost. That's the setup for this 1999 TV special from the long-running Lupin III franchise, and it puts Fujiko front and center in a way the series doesn't always do. Lupin, Jigen, and Goemon are all chasing after her — partly to help, partly because they need what's in her head — alongside a treasure hunter named Rosaria who has her own reasons for wanting the Egg. The tone is exactly what you'd expect from Lupin III: heist energy mixed with slapstick, a little mystery, and Yuji Ohno's jazz soundtrack holding everything together. If you've enjoyed City Hunter or Cowboy Bebop and want something in that same late-90s action-comedy space, this fits right in. It's a standalone story, so you don't need to know the franchise deeply to follow it, though fans will appreciate seeing the crew operate. Think of it as a Fujiko-focused side story with a classic adventure structure underneath.
