Synopsis

Crimes are being committed using a gun identical to Lupin III's signature Walther P38 — and that's personal. Lupin isn't just a thief, he's a guy with a reputation, and someone is out there tarnishing it with his own weapon. When he starts pulling the thread, it leads him to the Tarantulas, a secretive island-based guild of elite assassins who don't exactly hand out visitor badges. Getting inside means Lupin and Fujiko have to earn their way in, tattoo and all — and that tattoo comes with strings attached you really don't want attached to you. This one leans noticeably darker than your average Lupin caper. The comedy is still there — Jigen and Goemon show up, Zenigata is Zenigata — but the assassin underworld setting gives it a genuinely tense undercurrent. Think less heist romp, more shadowy conspiracy with Lupin cracking jokes while walking into something way bigger than he expected. If you've watched Cowboy Bebop and liked how it balanced cool action with a moody atmosphere, this scratches a similar itch. City Hunter fans will also feel at home with the 90s aesthetic and the mix of humor and genuine danger. It's a single TV special from 1997, so it's a clean one-and-done watch — no commitment, no filler, just Lupin in a situation that actually has some weight to it.
