InuYasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When a modern high school girl named Kagome falls through a well in her family's shrine and lands in feudal Japan — and if you're already familiar with the InuYasha TV series, this movie is a genuinely satisfying extension of that world. If you're not, think Fushigi Yuugi meets Rurouni Kenshin: The Motion Picture, with a half-demon protagonist and a time-traveling love story threaded through the action. The setup: Inuyasha and Kagome are still hunting scattered shards of the Shikon Jewel across Sengoku-era Japan when a new demon named Menoumaru shows up with a grudge. His father was defeated by Inuyasha's father long ago, and now he wants the sword Tessaiga to reclaim what his family lost. It's a personal vendetta, which gives the conflict more weight than a generic power grab. What makes this worth your time is the production bump. The animation is noticeably cleaner than the TV series — fight sequences actually flow, backgrounds have real depth, and the soundtrack earns its moments. The movie also leans into the Inuyasha and Kagome dynamic in ways the weekly format doesn't always have room for. If you liked Kamisama Kiss and want something with sharper edges and more action, or if you're already mid-series and need a breather that still moves, this hits that balance well. One standalone movie, no filler.
