📖 SYNOPSIS

Li Huowang can't tell if he's losing his mind or if the gods are real. That's not a metaphor — he genuinely doesn't know whether the celestial beings he sees, the bizarre heavenly laws twisting around him, are actual supernatural phenomena or something his fractured psyche is conjuring. And honestly, the show doesn't rush to give you a clean answer either.

This ONA, adapted from a web novel and animated by D.ROCK-ART, drops you into a world where reality and illusion bleed into each other in deeply unsettling ways. Early on, Li Huowang meets Bai Lingmiao, who becomes something of an anchor for him, and Peng Longteng, a warrior carrying his own baggage. But the real tension isn't in the fights — it's in never being sure what's actually happening. The power system revolves around manipulating the boundary between real and unreal, which fits the story's psychological horror angle perfectly.

The animation blends traditional Chinese aesthetics with modern techniques, and the soundtrack leans hard into atmosphere — eerie, layered, the kind that makes quiet scenes feel heavier than action sequences. The tone is dark and introspective, closer to psychological horror than standard fantasy fare.

If you liked the cultivation world-building of Mo Dao Zu Shi but want something more psychologically disturbing, or if Soul Land's power systems appeal to you but you're craving a darker, more ambiguous narrative, this one's worth keeping on your radar for 2026.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You're into horror-fantasy donghua where reality and illusion constantly blur together
Li Huowang's dual-world setup—modern life vs immortal cultivation—sounds like your kind of premise
D.ROCK-ART's dark aesthetic in the PV caught your eye and you want more
You love Chinese mythology mixed with psychological horror rather than standard cultivation power fantasy

❌ SKIP IF...

You need straightforward plots—this leans hard into confusion and ambiguity by design
You're not into donghua and prefer Japanese anime studios' production styles
Gore and horror themes in a cultivation setting aren't what you're looking for
