Synopsis

After bonding over a tragic loss, the long-suffering Nanachi joins Riko and Reg on their journey into the depths of the Abyss. Awaiting the children is the Sea of Corpses—the Abyss's fifth layer, and the deepest level from which a traveler can return without losing their human form. The masked sadist Bondrewd stands between the children and the rest of their adventure. Bondrewd's horrific laboratory serves as a final checkpoint for those wishing to traverse deeper into the Abyss, and the sociopathic scientist has no desire to allow Riko's party to pass through at no cost. Deeply scarred by Bondrewd's impact on their childhood, Nanachi is engulfed in turmoil over his resurgence in their life. Bondrewd's only apparent weakness is Prushka, a brash child who claims to be his daughter. Riko, Reg, and Nanachi befriend Prushka and work with the girl to overcome her father's machinations and breach the Abyss's sixth layer. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

This is my first introduction of Made in Abyss and I am blown away by the production and writing of this media. The art and setting is gorgeous that I certainly felt like being in another world. The visceral scenes was both gut punching and horrifying that betrays the style of the art. The pacing takes its time to allow getting to know the Trio; of Riko's resourcefulness, Nanachi's compassion, Reg's loyalty. It made them that much endearing.

The framing, composition, and visual structure are stunning. The background music is also good. It creates moments that feel majestic and unsettling. An emotional and lore-rich movie. The first minute of the movie feels wonderful, then suddenly it turns into a tragedy.

overall is great, but the lack of smooth pacing in the fights is disappointing, and because we can clearly see the higher budget and better visuals, but the action still feels choppy, characters talk a lot, then fight only few scenes, then back to talk again.

it really break the flow lol
