📖 SYNOPSIS
A Taoist priest accidentally releases a treasure-gathering golden toad while messing with a heavenly book, and the toad — greedy for the human world's riches — reincarnates as a man named Dou Zhanlong. But here's where it gets weird: to dodge divine punishment, the toad rips Dou Zhanlong's soul into pieces, creating nine clones scattered across parallel timelines. Each time one dies, the next one wakes up somewhere else, kicking off a brutal cycle called "nine deaths and thirteen disasters." The story follows the first Dou Zhanlong as he tries to figure out who he is, why the heavens want him dead, and what it means to be a fractured copy of a mythical creature wearing a human face. The setting mixes historical Chinese aesthetics with straight-up fantasy — think martial arts fights layered with supernatural toad magic and Taoist cosmology. It's got that blend of identity crisis and action that keeps things from feeling repetitive even with the clone gimmick. The parallel universe angle gives each arc a different flavor, almost like anthology storytelling but with a connected thread. If you liked the reincarnation chaos in Dawang Raoming or the supernatural historical vibes of Shenyi Jiu Xiaojie, this ONA hits a similar nerve. It's adapted from a novel, produced by CG Year, and the tone leans heavily into mystical adventure without taking itself too seriously. Worth a look if you're into Chinese fantasy that actually commits to a strange premise.
