Honoo no Toukyuujo: Dodge Danko
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Her father was a dodgeball legend — but that was then. Was. Past tense. Now dodgeball is basically dead at her school — the club got disbanded, nobody cares, and the gym probably smells like dust. But Danko isn't the type to let her father's legacy just rot, so she drags her childhood friend Chinko into a mission to rebuild the team from scratch. The problem is finding people who actually want to play dodgeball in an era where, well, nobody really does. This is a sports anime about dodgeball, which already makes it one of the more unusual picks out there. The sport itself lends itself to chaotic, fast-paced matches that feel genuinely different from what you've seen in volleyball or basketball shows. Studio Cue brings a lot of energy to the animation, and the comedic tone keeps things from getting too heavy even when Danko's hitting walls trying to recruit reluctant classmates. The heart of it is generational — a daughter trying to honor what her father built, filtered through the messy reality of being a kid who has to convince other kids to care about something they've written off. It's got that underdog-team-building DNA you'd recognize if you liked Haikyuu or Kuroko no Basket, but the sport choice and the lighter comedic vibe give it its own lane. If Yowamushi Pedal hooked you by making cycling compelling, this does the same thing for dodgeball.
