Honey Lemon Soda
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Throughout all three years of middle school, Uka Ishimori was called 'Rocky' — not because she was tough, but because her classmates decided her shyness meant she had no emotions. Three years of bullying later, she's starting fresh at a new high school, determined to actually speak up for once. Then, on her first week, a popular guy with lemon-colored hair accidentally drenches her in soda. That's how she meets Kai Miura, whose easygoing confidence is basically everything Uka wishes she could be. This 12-episode TV series from J.C.Staff is a shoujo romance adapted from a manga, and it nails that specific feeling of wanting to reinvent yourself in high school but not knowing where to start. The pacing is gentle — this isn't about dramatic love triangles or misunderstandings dragged across seasons. It's about a girl slowly learning she's allowed to take up space, with a boy who sees her clearly when no one else bothered to look. The animation leans into bright, fizzy visuals that match the lemon soda motif, and Akira Kosemura's soundtrack keeps things warm without getting saccharine. If you liked Kimi ni Todoke's quiet heroine finding her voice, or the bittersweet school-life atmosphere of Ao Haru Ride, this hits similar notes. Fans of Toradora's character-driven romance will find something to appreciate here too, though the tone stays lighter and more youthful throughout.
