Synopsis

A reserved high school kid whose entire world revolves around crafting traditional hina dolls, Wakana Gojou isn't the type to bring up his hobby in casual conversation. He's kept it hidden for years after being made fun of as a child, so he mostly keeps to himself. Then Marin Kitagawa, one of the most popular girls in class, catches him sewing in the home ec room after school. Instead of being weirded out, she's thrilled, because Marin is deep into cosplay and has zero idea how to make her own costumes. She ropes him into helping her bring her favorite characters to life, and what starts as a creative partnership slowly turns into something more. The dynamic between them is what carries this whole show. Marin is unapologetically herself — loud about what she loves, zero shame — and watching Gojou gradually open up around her feels genuine rather than forced. CloverWorks did a gorgeous job with the animation, and the way the series digs into the actual process of cosplay crafting gives it a texture most romance anime skip over. It's a 12-episode TV series based on a seinen manga, so the pacing is tight and the humor leans a bit more mature without going overboard. If you liked the natural chemistry in Horimiya or the way Toradora! builds its central relationship through unlikely circumstances, this hits a similar sweet spot. Warm, funny, and surprisingly wholesome for how often Marin pushes Gojou out of his comfort zone.
