Synopsis

Living in a jungle village with his scattered, party-loving mom, 10-year-old Haré has a pretty normal life. Then one day she drags home a little girl named Guu, and nothing is ever the same again. Around adults, Guu is sweet, quiet, and well-behaved. Around Haré, she's something else entirely — unpredictable, vaguely threatening, and in possession of abilities that have no business existing, like swallowing living creatures whole and housing them inside a bizarre pocket dimension in her stomach. Haré is the only one who sees any of this, which means he spends most of his time frantically trying to contain the chaos while everyone else thinks he's overreacting. The premise sounds simple, but the humor gets genuinely weird in a way that keeps you off balance. Guu's internal world alone is a whole thing. The comedy here leans surreal and repetitive in a rhythm-based way, where the joke is often how hard Haré is working just to survive a normal Tuesday. If you grew up watching Crayon Shin-chan and enjoyed a kid protagonist losing his mind over adult obliviousness, this scratches a similar itch. Fans of Excel Saga's chaotic energy or the low-stakes weirdness of Azumanga Daioh will probably find a lot to like here too. It's a 26-episode TV series from 2001, the animation is expressive and punchy, and the soundtrack is the kind of thing that gets lodged in your head for weeks.
