Synopsis
After watching high jumper Izumi Sano compete, Japanese-American girl Mizuki Ashiya becomes so completely taken with him that she does something kind of unhinged — she moves from the US to Japan, cuts her hair, and enrolls in his all-boys school disguised as a guy. It gets better: she doesn't just end up in his class, she ends up as his roommate. The whole premise is ridiculous in the best way, and the show knows it. Mizuki has to navigate dorm life, gym class, and close friendships while keeping her secret intact, which gets increasingly complicated when her classmate Nakatsu starts catching feelings for her and can't figure out why he's attracted to a "boy." Meanwhile, Sano has quit high jumping for reasons Mizuki doesn't fully understand yet, and she's quietly trying to pull him back to the sport that drew her to him in the first place. The tone is warm and funny with real emotional weight underneath — Signal.MD gives the 2026 adaptation a fresh visual treatment across 12 episodes that keeps things tight. If you liked Ouran High School Host Club's gender-bending comedy or the romantic tension in Boys Over Flowers, this hits a similar sweet spot. It's a shoujo classic finally getting a proper anime, and the love polygon alone makes it worth your time.
