Synopsis

Not once in his life has Kenma Kozume been the type to get his blood pumping over volleyball. He's good at it, sure, but it's never been something he truly cares about. Then Karasuno shows up at the Spring Nationals, and suddenly this guy who treats everything like a low-energy video game actually wants to win. That shift alone is worth the price of admission. This movie covers the match Haikyuu fans have been waiting for since season one — Karasuno vs. Nekoma, the so-called "Dumpster Battle" between the crows and the cats. It's the third round of Nationals, and both teams have history stretching back to their coaches' playing days. On one side, you've got Hinata bouncing off the walls with raw athleticism and instinct. On the other, Kenma quietly dismantling opponents like he's solving a puzzle. The film zeroes in on that contrast and builds the entire emotional core around their friendship-turned-rivalry. Production I.G went hard on the animation here. The rallies are fluid and weighty — you feel every receive and every spike. The soundtrack layers tension underneath without being overbearing, and the pacing keeps things tight since it's a single match across one movie. If you liked the team dynamics in Kuroko's Basketball or the rivalry tension in Ace of Diamond, this hits similar notes but with Haikyuu's grounded approach to competition. You don't need to understand volleyball to feel the stakes. You just need to care about two friends trying to beat each other, and the film makes that effortless.

I love this movie. Kenma's life journey before and after entering the world of high school volleyball is really detailed. Although sometimes I get bored when the flashback scenes are a bit long, but that doesn't affect my determination to watch it until the end. The placement between the flashback scenes and the current match scenes feels right, so there is no awkward feeling when watching. The animation quality also feels better than the series.

This one really feels like peak Haikyu rivalry energy. The match is intense from start to finish, and the momentum swings make it super stressful in a good way. Both teams feel equally strong, and the emotional payoff hits hard without overdoing it.
Epic battle between crow and neko. goosebumps scene. Hype, thing unable to describe by words only can feel when you're watching this movie.
