Synopsis

Stretched across just ten episodes, one single volleyball match comprises the entire runtime of this season. And somehow it never drags for a second. Haikyuu's third season puts Karasuno, the scrappy underdog team that's clawed its way back from irrelevance, against Shiratorizawa Academy in the Miyagi Prefecture finals. The prize is a ticket to nationals. The problem is Wakatoshi Ushijima, a left-handed ace who hits like a freight train and genuinely believes Karasuno's setter Kageyama made the wrong choice by not attending his school. It's personal in a way that makes every rally feel like it matters. Production I.G went all in on the animation here — the volleyball is kinetic, weighty, and honestly some of the best sports choreography in anime. But what makes it land is that you already care about these characters from the previous seasons, and the show keeps finding new angles on their growth even within a single game. Tsukishima's arc alone is worth the watch. The pacing is tight, the soundtrack knows exactly when to hit, and the tension builds in a way that had me forgetting to breathe during some of the later sets. If you liked the competitive intensity of Kuroko no Basket or the team dynamics in Aoashi, this is that same energy but more grounded. And if Yowamushi Pedal showed you that sports anime can make you emotional about things you've never cared about — yeah, volleyball is next. Watch seasons one and two first, obviously.

This episode is hyped because of the block, but it also portrays Tsukishima 's inner conflict of his perspective of the sport. Finally, showing he has a passion for the sport instead of just seeing it as a club activity and being emotionally distant from it.

I actually started yelling when that 360 camera shot panned around the court during the last point, and the way the music cut out made my skin crawl in the best way possible
akiteru being the loudest person in the stands while cheering for his brother made that whole tsukishima mvp moment even better and seeing him so proud was just a great touch
