Flying Witch
Oshimeter
Synopsis
At just 15 years old, the young witch Makoto Kowata moves to rural Aomori to live with her cousins — and that's basically the whole plot. She settles into countryside life, learns to grow vegetables, flies around on a broomstick occasionally, and hangs out with her black cat familiar, Chito. Her younger cousin Chinatsu is equal parts fascinated and terrified by magic, and those reactions are honestly half the charm of this show. Flying Witch is the kind of anime where an entire episode can revolve around picking wild herbs or making pancakes, and you somehow don't want it to end. Magic exists here, but it doesn't come with drama or stakes. A mandrake screams when you pull it from the ground, a mysterious visitor shows up at the door — these things happen alongside grocery shopping and school, and nobody treats it as a big deal. That's what makes it work. This 12-episode TV series from J.C.Staff is pure iyashikei — healing anime designed to make you feel calm. If you liked the gentle magic of Kiki's Delivery Service or the rural tranquility of Non Non Biyori, this sits right in that space. It has a lot in common with Aria the Animation too, where the atmosphere matters more than any plot. The Aomori setting is gorgeous, the soundtrack is quiet and warm, and the pacing never rushes anything. Watch it when you need to decompress. It's basically a warm cup of tea in anime form.
