EPISODE CONTEXT
Coming off Episode 4's recruitment of Oolong, the Dragon Ball hunt pushes the growing party into hostile desert territory and introduces Yamcha — a character whose rivalry and eventual alliance with Goku will become a long-running thread throughout the series. This is still firmly in the early world-building stretch of the 153-episode run, establishing key players and relationships. The episode sets up ongoing desert encounters and deepens the stakes as more parties become interested in the Dragon Balls.
