Case Closed Movie 06: The Phantom of Baker Street
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When the Detective Boys get invited to playtest a cutting-edge VR game called Cocoon, Conan Edogawa is along for the ride — the kind of full-immersion tech that transports you completely into another world. The scenario they load into is 19th-century London, cobblestone streets, fog, the whole thing. Sounds like a dream field trip, right? Except before they even get comfortable inside the game, a real person turns up dead outside it, leaving behind a cryptic dying message that points somewhere inside the virtual world. Now Conan has to solve an actual murder while navigating a fictional London populated with figures like Sherlock Holmes himself. The line between the game and the stakes outside it stays uncomfortably blurry throughout. If you liked Sword Art Online's premise of being trapped inside a virtual world with real consequences, this scratches a similar itch but wraps it in a classic murder mystery structure. And if you've ever wanted to see Conan go full Victorian detective in a period setting, this is genuinely one of the more creative entries in the movie lineup. The tone is grounded and suspenseful rather than flashy — it takes its time building the mystery before things start escalating. You don't need to be deep into the Detective Conan series to follow it either. It works well as a standalone thriller with a concept that still feels inventive over two decades later.
