Synopsis

Burned into Ran Mouri's mind — and then disappeared from it entirely — is something she was never supposed to see. That's the core of this fourth Detective Conan movie, and it hits differently than a standard whodunit because the person whose memory holds the key to everything is someone Conan genuinely cares about protecting. A string of murders targeting Tokyo police officers sets things in motion, each killing more brazen than the last. Then at a hotel, Ran ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the psychological shock wipes her memory clean. She doesn't know who she is. She doesn't know Conan. That emotional gut-punch drives the whole film. The mystery itself is tightly constructed — police investigating police, nobody fully trusted, the killer always one step ahead. But what makes it stick is watching Conan navigate the case while also quietly falling apart over Ran's condition. The animation holds up well for a 2000 production, especially during the tenser sequences. If you've seen Detective Conan Movie 03: The Last Wizard of the Century and liked how it balanced spectacle with personal stakes, this one leans even harder into the personal side. And if Movie 05: Countdown to Heaven is on your list, this pairs well as a companion piece in tone. It's a movie-length mystery that actually uses its runtime — no filler, no wasted scenes.
