Baki Hanma
Oshimeter
Synopsis
At only 18 years old, Baki Hanma has a dad who can kill a prehistoric-sized elephant with his bare hands. His goal? Beat that dad in a fight. That's basically the whole premise of this ONA, and it's exactly as unhinged as it sounds. This season picks up with Baki training by sparring against a giant praying mantis — not as a metaphor, an actual massive insect — and then deciding the best way to level up is to get himself thrown into an Arizona prison so he can fight Biscuit Oliva, the strongest man in America. The logic is pure Baki: why go to a gym when you can go to maximum security? The 12 episodes lean hard into that dark, hyper-masculine energy the franchise is known for. TMS Entertainment pushes the animation into this exaggerated, almost grotesque style where muscles have muscles and every punch looks like it could crack the earth. The fights aren't just physical either — there's a surprising amount of martial arts philosophy woven in between people getting their faces rearranged. If you liked Kengan Ashura's tournament brutality or the over-the-top machismo of Fist of the North Star, this is your lane. There's also a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure quality to how seriously it plays its most absurd moments. The soundtrack goes hard, the fights are visceral, and the father-son dynamic gives it just enough emotional weight to keep you watching between the carnage.
