Grappler Baki: The Ultimate Fighter
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A teenager named Baki Hanma walks into an underground fighting tournament and starts dismantling grown martial artists like it's nothing. That alone gets the attention of Doppo Orochi, a karate grandmaster who doesn't impress easily — and when a guy like that sits up straight and pays attention, you know something real is happening. This 1994 OVA is a single-episode introduction to a world where elite fighters from every discipline — karate, wrestling, street fighting — gather beneath Tokyo in a no-rules arena to find out who actually hits harder. It's raw and it doesn't apologize for that. The fights feel grounded in real martial arts logic rather than flashy anime theatrics, which gives the brutality a different weight than most combat sports series. If you've watched Kengan Ashura and wanted something older with that same "serious men hitting each other very hard" energy, this is worth tracking down. Fans of Shigurui who appreciate when a fight anime actually thinks about technique and consequence will find something familiar here too. Think of this as ground zero — Baki's story is long and gets progressively unhinged, but this OVA is where it starts, and it establishes the tone cleanly: dark, grounded, and built around a kid with something to prove against people twice his age and size.
