BAKI-DOU: The Invincible Samurai
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Having already beaten everyone worth beating — including his own father, the most dangerous creature on the planet — Baki Hanma now finds himself with nothing left to prove. Now he's yawning through underground arena fights because nobody can give him a real challenge anymore. His training partners and rivals are in the same rut, going through the motions with no fire behind it. That restless, post-victory emptiness is actually kind of interesting to watch, but the show doesn't sit there long. Because then someone decides the solution to everyone's boredom is to clone Miyamoto Musashi — the most legendary swordsman in Japanese history — and bring him back to life in modern-day Tokyo. Yeah, this is Baki. That's just how things work here. This 13-episode ONA from TMS Entertainment adapts the Baki-Dou manga, and it leans hard into that signature blend of absurd premise and dead-serious execution. The animation doubles down on those grotesque, hyper-detailed physiques the franchise is known for, and the fights carry real weight because Musashi isn't just some historical novelty — he's a genuine threat in ways these characters haven't dealt with before. The tone stays dark and brutal, with the gore you'd expect from this series. If you liked Kengan Ashura's raw tournament energy or the over-the-top machismo of Fist of the North Star, this fits right in that wheelhouse. Fans of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure will also appreciate how confidently it commits to its own weirdness. You don't need to take it seriously — it already does that for you.
