Armitage III: Dual Matrix
Oshimeter
Synopsis
On Mars, highly advanced android Naomi Armitage is living a quiet life with her human husband and their daughter, trying to pass as an ordinary family. The catch is that robots in this world are considered second-class citizens at best, and Naomi is one of the most advanced models ever built. One wrong look from the wrong person and their whole life unravels. Armitage III: Dual-Matrix is a 2002 movie from AIC that picks up after the original OVA series. You don't strictly need to watch that first, but it helps. The setup here is a slow-burn domestic tension that eventually collides with some genuinely sharp action sequences. Ross, her husband, has a shot at changing android rights legislation back on Earth, and naturally there are shadowy groups who want that vote buried. What makes this worth your time is how it balances the political and the personal. This is not just androids punching things — it is a story about a family trying to exist in a world that does not legally recognize them as real. If you liked Ghost in the Shell for its quieter philosophical questions about identity, or Appleseed for its human-android coexistence politics, this hits similar notes with a more grounded emotional core. Fans of Ergo Proxy will also find familiar territory here. It is a compact, 80-minute movie, so the pacing is tight and nothing overstays its welcome.
