Armitage III
Oshimeter
Synopsis
In 2046, a gritty colony city on the red planet becomes the unlikely refuge for a detective transferring from Chicago, hoping to leave a traumatic past behind — and it's when he arrives that things immediately go wrong. Then, within minutes of landing, a country singer gets murdered at the spaceport — and she turns out to be a 'Third,' an android so human you'd never know the difference. Ross Sylibus is now partnered with Naomi Armitage, a sharp-tongued, unpredictable cop with clearly more going on beneath the surface than she lets on. Together they start pulling at a thread that the Martian government very much wants left alone. The mystery builds slowly and the romantic tension between Ross and Armitage gives it real weight — this isn't just a buddy-cop procedural. There's a genuine question running underneath everything about what it means to be human when the line between person and machine has nearly disappeared. The cyberpunk aesthetic holds up surprisingly well for 1995, with detailed cityscapes and an atmospheric soundtrack that keeps the mood grounded. If you liked Ghost in the Shell's philosophical edge or the android-identity tension in Ergo Proxy, this scratches a similar itch in a much more compact package. Four episodes, original story, no filler. It's the kind of show where the setup alone is doing a lot of heavy lifting, and it earns the investment.
