EPISODE CONTEXT
As the series premiere of a 12-episode run, this episode exists entirely to lay groundwork — establishing Yuuri's emotional state, his relationship to skating, and the key figures in his orbit including childhood friend Yuuko and champion Victor Nikiforov. It plants the seeds for the central dynamic between Yuuri and Victor that will drive the entire season. Everything here is setup: Yuuri's crisis of confidence is the launching pad for a journey of reinvention and connection.
