Tokyo Revengers
Oshimeter
Synopsis
At 26 years old, Takemichi Hanagaki is a loser. Not in a charming, underdog way — in a getting-bullied-by-his-younger-boss, crying-in-his-apartment way. Then he finds out his middle school ex-girlfriend Hinata was murdered by the Tokyo Manji Gang, and right as he's about to die himself, he wakes up twelve years in the past. Back in middle school. Back when he still had friends, confidence, and something worth fighting for. The hook is simple: Takemichi has to infiltrate one of Tokyo's most dangerous gangs to change the future and save Hinata. But this isn't some power fantasy where the time traveler comes back with all the answers. Takemichi is weak. He gets beaten down constantly. What makes him compelling is that he keeps getting up anyway, even when he's terrified, even when the odds are absurd. The gang dynamics are genuinely complex — Mikey, the Tokyo Manji Gang's leader, is one of those characters who's magnetic and unsettling in equal measure. If you liked Erased for its time-travel-to-prevent-tragedy setup, this hits similar notes but trades the mystery angle for raw gang conflict and emotional gut punches. Fans of Re:Zero will recognize that desperate, repeated struggle against fate. The 24-episode TV series from LIDENFILMS adapts the manga's early arcs well, and the drama hits harder than you'd expect from a shounen about delinquents throwing punches. It earns its emotional moments.
