Synopsis

Once the most feared yakuza boss in Japan — a man known as the "Immortal Dragon" whose name alone made rival gangs flinch — Tatsu now wears an apron and aggressively comparison-shops at the supermarket. That's the whole premise of this 5-episode ONA from J.C.Staff, and it works way better than it should. Tatsu has retired from organized crime to become a full-time househusband for his wife Miku, a career-driven designer who's quietly obsessed with magical girl anime. The comedy comes from Tatsu approaching every domestic task — grocery runs, cooking, neighborhood disputes — with the dead-serious intensity of a gang war. He intimidates store clerks without meaning to, his former underling Masa keeps showing up and getting dragged into coupon hunts, and everyone around him assumes the worst because he still looks like he could end someone. The animation style is closer to a motion comic than traditional anime, which might throw you off at first, but it actually suits the deadpan humor really well. Each episode is a collection of short gag scenarios, so there's no real plot to keep track of — you just watch Tatsu be aggressively domestic and it's genuinely funny. If you liked the absurd premise-driven comedy of Back Street Girls or the fish-out-of-water energy in Hayate no Gotoku, this hits a similar note. It's short, low-commitment, and the kind of thing you throw on when you want something light and consistently entertaining.

Quick Takes

Despite an animation style that feels neglected and low-budget, the series stands out for its episodic narrative. The short chapters successfully explore the protagonist's past and keep things fresh by constantly introducing new characters.
Tatsu tries his hand selling items at the market and unwittingly intimidates the yakuza intimidating the stall runners. He continues showing his protege, Masa, the ropes of the househusband, tackling chores like a true criminal should.
Ex-yakuza boss, Tatsu, proves himself to not only be a devoted and loyal househusband, but also to be a man who finds hilariously clever ways (accidental or not) out of some rather sticky situations, all while teaching former gang members the virtues of domestic life.
