The Drops of God
Oshimeter
Synopsis
For his entire adult life, Shizuku Kanzaki has been running from wine. His father, one of the world's most famous wine critics, put him through bizarre training as a kid — memorizing the smell of leather belts, learning to decant before he could drive — and it left him wanting nothing to do with any of it. He works at a beer company now, and that suits him fine. Then his estranged father dies and leaves behind a will that reads more like a puzzle: identify thirteen legendary wines, including the mythical 'Drops of God,' or lose the entire inheritance to Issei Tomine, a young wine prodigy his father literally adopted as a second son. So now Shizuku, a guy who hasn't touched wine in years, is in a high-stakes competition against someone who's already a celebrated critic. What makes this work is that Shizuku isn't starting from zero — those weird childhood lessons actually gave him incredible sensory instincts he never wanted to use. The mystery of each wine becomes its own emotional arc, layered with family baggage and slow-burn character development. The tone is quiet and absorbing, more contemplative than flashy. If you liked the passion-meets-craft energy of Bartender or the way Yakitate!! Japan turns a niche subject into genuine drama, this is in that lane. It's a seinen through and through — patient, adult, and surprisingly moving once it gets its hooks in you.
