📖 SYNOPSIS
An interdimensional colossus called the Grand Reverse tears into Earth's orbit, and the capital falls within hours. Multi-legged tanks rolling through the streets, troops everywhere — it's bleak. The year is 2207, and humanity's old allies Gamilas and Iscandar have already vanished. Things are about as desperate as they get. So the veteran crew of the Space Battleship Yamato gets a secret order to launch into uncharted dimensions on what might be a one-way trip to save what's left of the human race.
This is a movie continuation of the Yamato 2205 series, and it carries that same weight — duty, sacrifice, people who've already been through hell choosing to go back into it. The cast is older, worn down, and that maturity gives every decision real gravity. Studio MOTHER delivers gorgeous animation that blends classic Yamato aesthetics with modern production, and the orchestral soundtrack hits hard in the quiet moments just as much as the battle sequences.
Speaking of battles, the space combat here is strategic and detailed, not just flashy beam spam. If you liked Legend of the Galactic Heroes for its tactical depth, or Gundam and Macross for their military drama set against interstellar conflict, this fits right in that lane. The tone is serious and emotional without being melodramatic — it earns its heavy moments.
You don't necessarily need deep Yamato lore to appreciate what's happening here, but longtime fans will feel the weight of every scene.
