Synopsis

As the 59th Sevalle — basically one of the most dangerous fighters alive in the warrior kingdom of Kuruda — Elle Ragu has built her entire fighting style around kicks. No swords, no punches, just devastating footwork and leg techniques called the Shadow Skill. Her adopted younger brother Gau Ban is training under her to master this art, and their relationship is the core of the whole thing: a brash, aggressive female mentor dragging her earnest disciple through a world that keeps trying to kill them both. This 1995 OVA picks up with Elle and Gau making their annual pilgrimage to his parents' grave so he can demonstrate how far he's come as a fighter. Naturally, assassins and rival warriors see two famous targets on the road and decide it's a good time to attack. What follows is raw, gritty 90s martial arts combat — heavy line work, brutal impact frames, the kind of visceral animation that era did so well. The dynamic between Elle and Gau is what makes it stick. She's not a gentle teacher; she's a legend who fights like a cornered animal and expects Gau to keep up. It's got the post-apocalyptic warrior energy of Fist of the North Star, the dark fantasy grit of Claymore, and a bit of the adventurous spirit of Slayers. If you're into old-school martial arts anime with a genuinely cool power system and a mentor-student bond that actually has weight to it, this one's worth the 45 minutes.
