Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden Deductions
Oshimeter
Synopsis
No student ever showed more brilliance at an elite detective academy than Ron Kamonohashi — and then they expelled him and told him he could never work as a detective again. Now he's a recluse living in a messy apartment, wasting away with all that brilliance and nowhere to put it. Enter Totomaru Isshiki, a well-meaning but not exactly sharp police detective who shows up at Ron's door desperate for help on a case he can't crack. What follows is one of the more fun buddy dynamics in recent mystery anime. Ron handles the deductions, Totomaru handles the actual legwork, and together they start solving cases that neither could manage alone. The comedy here lands well — Ron is eccentric in ways that keep catching Totomaru off guard, and Totomaru's earnest sincerity plays off Ron's detached genius nicely. But underneath the laughs, there's a real thread about why Ron was expelled and what happened at BLUE that keeps pulling you forward. It's a 13-episode TV series from 2023 by Diomedéa, adapted from a shounen manga, and it moves at a solid pace without dragging. If you liked the case-of-the-week charm of Detective Conan but want something with a more modern setup, or if the mismatched partner energy of Bungou Stray Dogs appeals to you, this is worth your time. The mysteries aren't impossibly complex, but the character dynamic makes them feel fresh.
