The story follows Rikuo Nura, a human-Yokai hybrid, as he navigates his dual heritage and his destiny to lead the Nura Clan, a powerful group of Yokai.

📖 SYNOPSIS

For the most part, Rikuo Nura seems like a normal middle schooler — except he's one-quarter youkai and lives in a mansion full of demons who want him to be their next boss. His grandfather, Nurarihyon, is basically the godfather of the yokai underworld, and he's been grooming Rikuo to take over the Nura Clan. Problem is, Rikuo has seen how his classmates talk about youkai — monsters, child-eaters, things from nightmares — and he'd really rather just be a regular kid. That plan falls apart pretty quickly. Rival youkai factions start making moves, threats close in on the people he cares about, and Rikuo discovers he has a night form: a confident, silver-haired youkai version of himself who commands fear and loyalty in equal measure. The show plays with this dual identity in a way that's genuinely fun to watch — awkward human kid by day, charismatic demon lord by night. There's a loyal snow woman named Tsurara who follows him to school as his bodyguard, and a classmate who's literally training to exorcise youkai, which makes for some tense dynamics. The 24-episode TV series from Studio Deen pulls heavily from Japanese mythology, filling its world with folklore creatures that feel rooted in actual tradition rather than generic fantasy. If you liked the youkai-human tension in Natsume's Book of Friends but want something with more fight scenes, or if Blue Exorcist's "reluctant demon heir" premise clicked with you, this one's worth your time.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You're into Japanese yokai folklore — this season's world-building is steeped in mythology and tradition
Rikuo's human-vs-yokai identity crisis across 24 episodes is the kind of shounen theme you dig
Studio Deen's art direction here nails detailed character designs and atmospheric backgrounds worth appreciating
You enjoy a large supernatural clan cast — the Nura Clan's roster of quirky yokai keeps things lively

❌ SKIP IF...

You want fluid, dynamic fight animation — action scenes here feel stiff and lack real impact
Rikuo's night form feels overpowered too early — don't expect much tension in the conflicts
You're hoping Rikuo's human classmates get real depth — they stay pretty one-dimensional all season
